St. Francis Medical Center

Breckenridge, MN

St. Francis consists of two main components — a replacement critical access hospital, and 120-bed nursing care facility.

A single entry point was desired for this sprawling campus. This was resolved by separating traffic in the main lobby and creating two corridors — one leading to the nursing care, and one leading to the hospital. The facility was planned to be patient-friendly, and maximize staffing efficiency. The lab and its waiting area is located near the lobby, allowing easier access for patients.

Future expansion of imaging, surgery, lab and the acute wing was taken into consideration, allowing for ample expansion in the future. The heliport, just south of the ambulance receiving, helps with quick entry into the emergency department. The clear organization and layout of the facility eases wayfinding for visitors and patients, while offering more efficiency for staff and providers.
